Malvern College Egypt welcomes new Headmaster

10 August 2020
New Headmaster of Malvern College Egypt

Phillip Burgess, incoming Head of MCE, writes:

I’m very honoured and privileged to have been appointed as the Headmaster of Malvern College Egypt. Prior to taking up the position at MCE I have led schools in Australia, Dubai, China and the Cayman Islands. I enjoy the challenge of leading schools in an International context whilst instilling the rigours of the English National and International Baccalaureate curricula. I’m very excited about serving the Malvern College community and championing the Malvern College qualities, traditions and academic standards at MCE. The College is entering its fifth year of operation and is therefore poised to establish itself as the premier British school in Egypt. Very exciting times ahead.

I have over 20 years of educational experience and hold Bachelors degrees in Business and Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Prior to commencing my education career, I served as an Officer (Lieutenant)  in the Royal Australian Navy for a period of six years.  It was during my military service that my firm belief in Servant Leadership was established.

My interests and hobbies are quite eclectic. As a younger man, I competed at a representative level in tennis and rugby. I have competed in many triathlons and half marathons. I now enjoy a more sedate yet healthy lifestyle indulging my passions for reading history, politics, travel, cinema and theatre; whilst still exercising daily and attempting to be competitive on the golf course and the tennis court.

I have been described as one who was born in the wrong century as I believe firmly in traditional values and conduct, whilst championing creativity and embracing innovation.
